Due to my recent trip, this is a little late.
“Christmas is Coming!” That’s what my parents said to me as a kid when I asked for anything during the month of December. They still say it, actually. From December 1 to December 24, there is a moratorium for me on making large purchases of any sort. I cheat somewhat now, and buy gifts for myself saying, “It’s for Christmas! You can put it under the tree!” I suppose in the end, it’s the same, but it makes me feel better when I go into B & N during this time of year where the temptation is overwhelming.

The Making of Pride & Prejudice (BBC) Paperback Book
This is a nice book covering the production of the much-beloved 1995 version of Pride & Prejudice. The 128-page book
“reveals in compelling detail how Jane Austen’s classic novel was transformed into the stunning television drama starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. It vividly brings to life every stage of production of this sumptuous series.”
You can flip through some pages on Amazon, where it’s been given 5 stars.

400 Years of Fashion: Anatomy of a Collection

This 52-minute film from the Victoria & Albert Museum is “a must for any fashion professional, student or enthusiast.” While I love learning about all the aspects of my favorite movies, nothing interests me quite so much as the costumes. I tell my mother I wish I had more than one life to live so I could spend one of them as a costume designer! 400 Years of Fashion looks very interesting and would go on my Christmas list if it wasn’t already so full. I hope to visit this museum next summer on my graduation trip to England, but we might not have time (I originally planned a two-week trip, but was then told I might have 10 days at most! I had to cut out Kent, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Southampton altogether, leaving time for Bath, London, and Jane Austen country. So much to see, so little time!)
Currently at the museum, an exhibition titled “Magnificence of the Tsars” is on display; it features 200 years of men’s court dress all the way from Moscow (no women’s stuff; most of it is coronation and ceremonial attire). The museum has permanent exhibits featuring historical fashion, from the early 1700′s to the present-day.

I subscribed to British Heritage Magazine a couple of months ago for my school’s ridiculous magazine sale, but while shopping around I discovered this magazine. When I saw the description that said “Anglophiles rejoice for REALM,” I knew it was for me. Too bad I already spent $25 on the other one (I still haven’t received my first issue of British Heritage, which was supposed to arrive in November, but I am sure that’s the fundraising organization’s fault). Both magazines received equally positive reviews on Amazon, however, so why not have it both ways and order both?
“God save the Queen! Anglophiles rejoice for REALM, the informative magazine of Britain’s History and Countryside. Each bi-monthly issue gives Britain lovers more full color photographs and features about British life, culture and heritage than any other publication.”
And,
“People who love England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales will enjoy British Heritage. This is the magazine of travel, culture and adventure for those seeking a guide to all things British.”
A subscribtion to either would make a great gift for any Anglophile.
